A woman has opened up about her best friend’s deceit as she told her she wouldn’t be allowed to attend her wedding if she wore makeup.
In an anonymous post on Reddit, the woman explained that she is the maid of honour at her best friend of many years’ wedding.
In the run-up to the big day, the woman admitted that she’s been ‘breaking her back’ to ensure everything runs smoothly – even taking time off work to help her pal plan it all.
“For context: I am a makeup artist, I wear makeup every day, and I am good at it,” she explained.
“In my opinion (and as my friend had told me) I am significantly more attractive with makeup on, and in all honestly I lack confidence without it. I also have a scar on my face that I hide with makeup, and am very insecure about.”
In the past, she claims her friend has made many comments about her appearance and her makeup to men she’s been interested in.
“She says things like ‘you should see her without makeup’ when a guy expresses interest in me or talks about how ‘it can be wiped away’ if a man calls me pretty/beautiful.”
Although she has apologised for the comments and opened up about how “she was just jealous I got more male attention than her,” the comments continued, even recently during her engagement.
The woman continued: “This morning, I woke up to a text from her thanking me for all my help these past months, and saying she had an important request for me.”
The bride-to-be asked her not to wear any makeup to her wedding.
“She says if I wear makeup I will ‘overshadow’ (her words) her at her own wedding and it would be unfair because she wants to feel like the most beautiful person in the room as the bride,” explained the poster.
She told her that her request was “ridiculous” as everyone will be wearing makeup, and it would look odd if she was all dressed up and had a bare face.
To try and keep the peace, she offered to do more natural makeup and said that she would use brighter colours to make her stand out since she is doing her makeup for her (free of charge).
But she turned this down.
The woman added: “She said I absolutely cannot wear makeup, it’s her wedding, a real friend would want her to have the perfect day, etc.
“She accused me of wanting to take the attention from her on her special day, etc. She absolutely refuses to compromise, despite not being able to answer why I specifically can’t wear makeup but everyone else can…”
So, she asked users whether it would be unreasonable for her not to attend the wedding as her friend knows how self-conscious she is without it, and everyone agreed her friend was in the wrong.
One person said: ” This person is not your friend. At all.”
Another person commented: “She’s also unknowingly ruining all of her wedding photos that include [maid of honour] because everyone else will photograph well with makeup while looks so out of place, thus also taking attention away from the bride.”
“This ‘friend’ has known from the beginning that she didn’t want [original poster] wearing make-up at the wedding but instead of saying so, she sat back and let her put all this work into organizing the wedding,” said someone else.
Adding: “Now at the last minute after milking OP for all she’s worth she demands that OP not wear make-up, the nerve of her. Don’t go OP, she’s jealous of you, she’s always been jealous of you.”
